Not required, but it is recommended that your photos are organized before scanning:
When your photos are arranged in meaningful groups before digitizing, your final digital archive becomes much easier to navigate and enjoy. Organizing before scanning creates a clear structure that reflects your family’s story and helps your digital folders feel simple, intentional, and effortless to use. Many families choose to organize first because it creates a smoother experience and a more complete archive once their memories are digital.
If you would like help with this step:
I offer photo organizing as a separate service. This includes sorting, grouping, and preparing your photos so your digital archive feels thoughtful, streamlined, and ready for long term preservation. You can learn more about this service on the Photo Organizing page.
If you prefer to keep it simple:
Your photos can be scanned exactly as they arrive. Any natural groupings such as envelopes, stacks, or boxes will become your digital folders. If you organize your photos at home before drop off, I will follow the structure you create.
Do I need to organize my photos first?
No. Even though it is recommended that photos are organized first, either by you or by me, you are welcome to bring everything exactly as it is. Your digital scans will simply reflect how your photos were received. If you would like help organizing before scanning, I offer photo organizing as a separate service which you can explore on the Photo Organizing page.
How will my digital files be delivered?
All digital files are saved onto a USB drive, which is included with every project.
Do I get my original photos back?
Always. Every item is handled with care and returned exactly as it was received. If you would like your original photos placed into archival quality boxes for long term protection, I offer that as an optional service. You can learn more about it here.
What if my photos are in albums?
Many older photo albums were not made with archival safe materials, and photos can become stuck, brittle, or fragile over time. If your photos need to be removed from albums before scanning, I can gently and safely remove them using industry standard methods. Album removal is billed at my photo organizing hourly rate.
Before beginning, I will always let you know if an album requires extra time or special care, and we can decide together how to move forward.
